Dreams played a dominant role in religious rites for many primitive races. These visions were often assumed to be a direct message from a divine being, and as such were treated with reverence.

Dreams are as much a part of our lives as everything else we encounter. For the average person, 25% of each day is spent sleeping, during which time the average person will have 3.5 dreams. Unfortunately, their power, their importance, and the role they could play in someone's life have been totally neglected by most of us. Dreaming is a normal and necessary function of the body. Many people believe that they do not dream; the truth is that everyone dreams, just most are unable to recall their dreams upon awaking. People vary greatly in how much they are able to remember of their dreams. Most of the time, dreams can last anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes. Sometimes, the time spent in a dream seem very long. One possible explanation for this time-stretch effect is that dreams are combined from pieces that have their own different setting in time.
